I know I haven't updated this site for the longest time! A new semester has started and there were plenty of things to catch up last summer so as a result, my blog suffered. Actually, I have decided that my new blog will have nothing to do with affiliat marketing or all those cycler junk sites I posted earlier because I have to admit if I don't have real content, why should people care about my blog, right? So you won't see those links anymore, I promise.

Oscars

I'm glad Jamie Fox won for the movie 'Ray' and Hilary Swank for 'Million Dollar Baby'. They're extraordinarily talented and gave amazing performances of their lifetime. My favorite Oscar moment of the night was when Morgran Freeman took the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for 'Million Dollar Baby'. I feel sorry for Martin Scorsese though because I thought that when Clint Eastwood got the oscar for best director, 'The Aviator' would at least win the best picture but I was wrong. I hope there will be better luck for Martin Scorsese next year. Congratulations to all the winners!

Bill O'Reilly Comments

I was watching the local news last night and they showed a segment of Bill O'Reilly Show where he was commenting on Ward Churchill's visit to the University of Hawaii. Bill O'Reilly said Churchill got three standing ovations and he doesn't understand why we are wasting our money to invite him. He also said "That institution will never command my respect again". I would like to say that the invitation to Ward Churchill was funded by some UH Manoa Professors and students and that it was not a decision by the university as a whole. Even the President of the UH Manoa said he was not happy about Ward Churchill coming to UH Manoa but he supports free speech. I don't believe in what Churchill has to say about 9/11 victims and I certainly don't think we should ever invite a person like him again on our campus.

The controversial Colorado Professor Ward Churchill will be giving a talk at the UH Manoa Art Auditorium tomorrow night at 7 PM. Several UH Professors are aggressively fundraising for his visit and supporting his arguments. Not all Professors are happy about Churchill's visit and according to UH Political Science Professor Kate Zhou, she felt that there are much more respected and deserving individuals who can share their valuable experiences with the students are being ignored. I agree and while I understand that the freedom of speech is protected, an invitation to a person like Churchill with an ignorant message that can be misleading and offensive to others should be questionable. Life Secrets

My Biology Professor Mr.Chung said that 'the secret to life's happiness is to constantly exercise your mind and do things that are creative'. He believes that if we're not doing anything to challenge our mind when we get older, our brain will no longer work properly to function with our body.
On the other hand, my grandfather who is 89 years old said that 'the secret to life's happiness is not to think of any problems or do anything stressful with your brain, just leave your brain alone'.

They had a discussion about blogs with four bloggers two of whom I'm sure all bloggers are familiar of: Andrew Sullivan, Glenn Reynolds, Ana Marie Cox, Joe Trippi. I was happy to see especially Andrew Sullivan and Glenn Reynolds shared their thoughts on blogging and how the 'collective bands of minds' are coming together to change the way we read news. One of a Kind Professor

My biology professor's name is Mr.David Cheng and he's about 49 years old. He's slightly bald, short and wears the color black almost exclusively. He teaches introductory biology and well liked by a lot of students. What makes him popular on campus is the way he lectures and the wicked humor he possesses. He never fails to use the world 'die' 'death' or 'dead' in every single lecture no matter what he's explaining. Then he would smile and said 'What a pleasant thought, eh? Death, that's my happy thought for today'. When he was about to talk something particularly difficult to understand, he would repeat 'I warn you. This is crazy. It will make your head explode. You will feel like dying at the end of the lecture' over and over again. Then he would grin and said 'This is not my fault that you don't understand this. It's God's. So blame God, not me'. Today he said something that makes me feel mad..he said eggs are actually part of chicken's piss! Now I remember it when I'm about to eat something made of egg, which is just about almost all of my favorite foods! He's unlike any professor I've ever had and it's a mystery why he's so popular on campus. Do you have expereinces with a weird professor like that? What's the strangest lecture you've ever had in college?

Snowball fights in Honolulu

I live near the UH Maona campus and as I walked to the university library this afternoon to return some books, I heard some giggling behind my back and as looked back, I saw a snowball flying towards my face and I ducked immediately and it missed. What? Snowballs in the middle of afternoon in Honolulu!?? Apparently, some college kids are attacking each other with snowballs. The only way they can get snow was to climb Mauna Kea on the Big Island and carried a truck load of snow back to Honolulu. Anyway, I was fast and flexiable enough to dodge all the snowballs coming my way and continue on my way to the library.

When I started this blog a couple of months ago, I have little clue what blogs are or what bloggers do for that matter. Now that I became one of regular bloggers I find myself addicted to what other people have to say in the areas I'm interested. Many bloggers are interesting people with interesting stories to tell. I think it's amazing that when we surf blogs, we are sharing something special with people whom we otherwise would not have met if it wasn't for blogging. Most bloggers are extremely nice and friendly. When I see someone leave a comment on my blog, it makes my day..seriously..whether it's just a simple 'hello' or 'how are you'. I enjoy surfing the web a lot and reading blogs I found on BlogExplosion and BlogClicker. There are some blogs that are complaining that they don't like to read political blogs or other form of advertising disguised as blogs. I feel that whatever you write about on your blog, it is your choice and it is other people's choice to write whatever they want to. Another question of concern is that when you surf blogs, do you really spend your time reading the entire blog or just scan the blog and then leave? I bookmarked a lot of blogs that I feel I have a connection to or just plain interested in what they are talking about, whether it's politics, science, marketing or just personal stuff.

So many blogs are joining a new blog traffic website named Blog Clicker and I decided to join them as well. I like the fact the instead of boring numbers to click on like blogexplosion, they have fun upside down pictures of dog, hat or tree images. New Year's Exhaustion

We were invited to a New Year's Party at one of our friend's house and it turned out to be more than just simple joyful celebration. Apparently our friends had occupied their entire neighborhood block lined up with $5000 worth of fireworks to spend the whole night complete with boom box exploding with rap music and children screaming and jumping with glee. It was like being in a neighmare. You should have seen the mess after we blew up the fireworks. We filled up probably more than 50 bags of large trashbags. Geezzz..........I couldn't imagine anyone spending that much money just for fireworks. I hope that next year, it will be a little more quiet. How was your New Year's celebration like?

Bad Parents

My parents maybe the world's most idiotic people in the world. I don't say it just because I'm an angry teenager who doesn't have any clue about life. But if you want to meet anyone in real life who is inconsistent, arrogant, impossible, and brainless, you have to see my parents. My parents would do anything to make me feel dissapointed, discouraged, and ignored. My parents are lazy and they ridiculed hard work. I'm so sick of living with them. They don't help me when I need support or advice and when I try to figure things out for myself or ask other people, they even prevent me from doing so! Where do you find parents like that? So why don't you move out, you ask? Yes, it's always on my mind to be independent. But I'm an international student in the United States and I'm not eligible for loans or work permit except for on-campus job which barely covers my college tuition. I've been desperately working hard to start a business online with ebay and other online markets and if thing work out, I might be able to leave my miserable parents and have my own life and freedom.

Today is my 22nd birthday. But no parties or celebration because my family is not with me and all my friends are overseas. And I need to study for the final exam for tomorrow so I think it is going to be a very quiet birthday in the library. My birthday wishes for this year are:

2)I wish I don't need to worry about my school tuition.
3)I wish I could have a comfortable lifestyle.
4)I wish I could live in at least a moderately decent house by the time I'm 23.
5)I wish there's peace and happiness in the world for everyone.

Serendipity or Wordpress?

I'm mad about redecorating my blog. I'm crazy about adding features to my blog. But what could a novice blogger to do? I searched for open source softwares to use with blogger and found a lot of familiar names such as movable type, b2, livejournal, etc. So far, I'm impressed with two free blog software platforms. Serendipity and Wordpress. I'm still undecided because I want the perfect software that I could use the most out of my limited capability. I'm leaning toward wordpress because of its easy to use interface. However, I also like Serendipity because of their layout features. Inevitably, I will use one of them.

Pre-Birthday Thoughts

My birthday will be here in four days and I will turn 22 years old. I did a lot of thinking about what happened to me in my 21 years of existence in this world. Let's see. There are a lot of incredible things happened to me that I wish I could hold on and some things that I wish I could erase from my memory. Where should I start?

1)I was born in Myanmar, formerly known as Burma in Dec 8th, 1982. I went to a school named TTC(stands for Teachers Training Center). TTC follows the pattern fixed by our military/Socialist government. We memorized everything that teacher said and asking questions is not allowed. No one is allowed to think outside the box and there is no room to exercise our minds.

2)After my 8th grade, I moved to a tiny island in Micronesia called Chuuk where my father worked as a dentist in 1997. There, I spent three years at a Catholic School named Saramen Chuuk Academy. There, I experienced loneliness at the most extreme form. I'll explain. I was the only Buddhist student who was from Burma. And further more, there was a church built right inside the school compound and despite what I believe in, I had to go to sermons, pray, sing "I love God' songs, participated in confessions, etc. I remembered how I was desparate to make friends at any cost no matter how much I was taken advantage of. There, I learned to eat with my hands, ate spam for the first time, cleaned disguesting bathrooms, did push ups in scorching sun, having my lunch robbed every recess. As you can see, I didn't really have a great time there.

3)Then in 2000, my father again moved to another tiny island called Pohnpei in Micronesia. I was 17 and in the middle of my junior year in highschool. We moved around a couple of houses there and then finally settled down. I found myself at a school named SDA (Seventh Day Adventist)and in the middle of a school where all the students are Adventists and the teachers being young college students from the mainland. There were a few handful of internatinal students from Korea, Japan, Bangladesh and me, from Burma. I felt comfortable and enjoyed staying at a much more open minded school. Then I graduated.

4)I applied to a couple of schools in the mainland. I was accepted at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. My first major was Computer Science, simply because my parents think it's a nice major and thought that their child who had no experience in math and science will excel in that subject and will eventually make them a lot of money. Off I went to start my freshmen year on the Big Island of Hawaii for the first time away from home alone.

5)I discovered again that I was the only student from Burma in Hilo, HI. Not to worry. I have also discovered my first boyfriend and fell deeply in love. From then on, I couldn't concentrate anything. I had my first kiss, first night out, first 'I love you'. I spent a lot of time with him and I got to know his friends which one of them is from Burma. A 50 year old named Mya and 18 year old named Lucas who are business partners. We hanged out from time to time.

6)I discoverd that Sunny is not a virgin. He lives with his father who is a disabled hippie. He has a mother who he hadn't met since he was a teenager. He lives with his sister named Lavendar who frequently got into trouble at school. He has 18 cats and two dogs. He lives in a deep, deep forest in a small blue house that is 20 miles from his school. Sunny likes to be mysterious, aloof, untouchable, and serious. His major is Astronomy. He loves nature. He's also white and smokes weed to treat his dyslexia.

7) Are you starting to see the difference between me and Sunny? Surprisingly, we tolerated each other's differences so well that our relationship lasted for over two years. We said 'I love you' and meant it. We thought we will be together forever. It was truly a bliss living in paradise with someone you love. We broke up once due to misunderstandings and lack of communication effort. We eventually got back together stronger than ever.

8)Great news! Exgirlfriend of Sunny's father decided to move in because her exlover was trying to kill her and she needed a hiding place. Sunny's father was thrilled. He was always in love with her. Sunny couldn't be happier since she is his dear friend as well. That lovely lady name is Maggie Klein. She also had a six year son named Tyler. Despite her insanity and bad temper, Sunny and his father adored her.

9)I was forced to move in with Sunny and his family since they promised me the world that they are the perfect family for me. Plus they told me that I should keep my word. I said ,'huh'? What word? "Oh, remember you said two years ago to Sunny that you never want to go back to your parents" was the reply. I didn't even remember I said that! Besides, that was what people would say if they are upset with their parents sometimes and now they were telling me I must honor what I said and move in with them? There's something really wrong here.

10)So I moved in. It lasted about a week. When Maggie Klein showed her true colors and assaulted me. Sunny chose to stand by his family and watched me get hurt. I couldn't believe that I abandoned my parents for him. I realized that Sunny didn't care about me at all. All he cared about is himself and his family. Not me. He got what he wanted from me so he thought he should move on. I should have known. Sunny Stewart further spreads lies about me and turns people against me. There is no words to express my outrage for this. When someone you love turned into a monster like Sunny Stewart, you can't help but rethink about falling in love ever again.

Winds at 60 mph

It was pretty windy today as I walked up to the bus stop. My hair was completely messed up and I'm glad I was wearing long pants. While other parts of the world are reaching below 0 degrees temprature, Honolulu remains as sunny as ever but with fierce winds speeding up to 60mph. Finals are coming up in a few weeks and I feel entirely unprepared. Two four-page essays to write this weekend. Plus applying for the internship this summer. News of increasing tuition. Making the tough decision of finding the right graduate school. It's all here in the holiday season.

I read a great free ebook by Chris Malta and learned the truth about the real business world. Chris is an expert business owner himself and will walk you through on step by step in starting an online business. Of all the ebooks I read about internet business, I enjoyed reading his ebook the most.

Blog Reconstruction

I am redesigning my entire blog in a few days using Dreamweaver and Adobe photoshop. I haven't been able to purchase those software programs before so it was a real pain to learn html and the rest for a beginner like me. Lucky for me, my next door neighbor named Roy who is a computer scientist generously upgraded my Windows ME for Windows XP Home edition with bonus softwares worth about $500 for free! I was pleasantly surprised by his kindness. I know if I were to buy these programs myself, I would have to spend a lot of money. Because of him, now I can learn how to design a cool website! So I would like to dedicate this post to my neighbor Roy!

For anyone who visit my blog in the coming weeks, I apologize for the incovenience and I will post updates on my blog while I'm building a new design so come and see what's new anyway. Thanks and enjoy the links!

Cool Blog templates generator links

I know my blog looks funny and unfinished with cluttered links on the top so I searched google on blogger templates to change the look of my blog layout. I found two amazing websites that offered ready made 2 or 3 column templates that are compliant with blogger, movable type, B2, Wordpress and lets you choose your hosts Diaryland and Diary-x. If you are a beginner at blogs who wants a neat layout, I recommend you visit visit erisfree here

Another cool template designer is Fird-0-matic and you can visit here and see It's a free online tool that geneates two or three column layouts with the final code delivered to you. I hope you enjoyed these links.

Well, did you notice anything different lately? That's right folks! I updated my blog. I downloaded this text based design from noipo.org and while it doesn't look fancy, I still think it's decent and simple. Anyway, I'm amazed by how many people are catching the wave of blog revolution and some are making incredible amount of money writing about their hobby. There are also a number of books on marketing your blogs, creative ideas for blogs, advertising etc.

Here are two cool blogs I found today. I found one of them through just random surfing and if you are a blogger looking for some thoughtful articles about blogging, you should definitely go here and see

Also, here is a condensed blog run by a guy named Dave Pollard and he wrote for Salon.com and his blog is pretty crowded with a lot of links but he did a good research on blogging and wrote about blogging business, you can go visit him here

I know I haven't made changes to my blog as promised but I've been looking for really nice graphics to add and learning css at the same time so it's taking me a while. I'm very interested in the future of blogging and the potential possibilities it has to offer, and I found this really cool link while surfing the other day. It's called Radiant Marketing Group and its founder is Paul Chaney. He put together a really nice blog that focused on business blogging with articles from experts at marketing, web design, pay per click, affilate marketing and everything related to blogging in business sense. Happy Hallowen from Hawaii

Happy Hallowen!! You would expect a group of cute children dressed up in costumes asking for candies in Honolulu, but instead you saw a pack of people divided into Bush/Cheney and Kerry/Edwards mouthing off each other in front of the Hawaii Convention Center. Vice President Dick Cheny was there and he was trying really hard to compose himself amid all the yelling by Kerry supporters.

Highlight of the event: There was a guy who was dressed up as King Kemehameha who told the news reporter" The majority of the Hawaiians will vote for President Bush because the Hawaiians are warriors and we want the President who will defend us". Am I persuaded? Not really.

Cloudy in Honolulu

What do you get when you depressed? Cloudy days, of course! Exactly what I need to improve my mood, right? The weather here is quite unpredictable and change every five minutes. If you are in the right place, you can both get a tan and a rain shower. Seriously, from the back of my apartment, it is completely cloudy and looks like it will rain in a moment. Then when I get outside to the balcony in front of my apartment, the sun is shining like mad. Now it is uniformly cloudy, both back and front.
It's wise to take an umbrella, sun-block lotion, extra pair of flip flop and a sweater when you go out in Honolulu. There are way too many climate zones to stay in.

The Encounter

This post is completely irrelevant to the theme of my blog but I'm going to post it anyway. I was on my way to school this afternoon on a bus and when I was about to get off, I saw this woman who I loath more than any person alive in the world in front of me. I was very shocked and surprised because she lives in Hilo, in a faraway land called Glenwood. I didn't know why she was here. What in the world would she be doing here? It was a completely bizzare experience. Maybe she just looks like that woman but she looks so familiar. With untidy, thick brown hair, a tank top, and a long gipsy skirt, extremely overweight, wear eyeglasses. It was definitely her. Is she stalking me? I have no idea. I do hope she will live as far away as possible from me.

Every week, I received 'Harvard Independent Weekly' which I subscribed to online and I find their articles witty, funny, sacarstic and well-written. This week, they have a nice array of interesting articles and I would like to share one of my favorite one with you. Here is the copy:

Bush: Hero or zero?
The secret dual life of George W. Bush

When asked if our President is a "hero," I start to get nostalgic visions of Jeff Foxworthy: "If you think Bush is a hero, you might just be a redneck." I can't honestly say he is. What's more useful, though, is to examine the larger, more vocal minority of voters who consider him the Anti-Christ - or, to keep it secular, the Anti-Hero.Look closely at our President's image among his opponents, and you'll find not one, but two George W. Bushes. First is the one we're all probably more familiar with: the bumbling nincompoop who needs a microphone on his back during a debate so he can answer "I don't know" to the question of whether homosexuality is a choice or not in the third Presidential debate. I'll call him "Bush Tush." Bush Tush is the pawn of cynical, manipulative class interests - just the pretty face for a malicious force which has killed over 1,000 American women and children in some vague attempt to help the oil company Halliburton. He's the archetypal Dark Side Republican who's too rich to care about AIDS in America, the obvious effects of tax cuts on the poor, or the plight of gay Americans.

Then there's the second, more aggressive edition, which I'll call "Bush Push." This version is a man of character, religious belief, and stubbornness. He's the guy who invaded Iraq as a part of an explicit "Crusade" against Muslims (or maybe to avenge his father - whichever), the one who flies around in a jet plane and declares "Mission Accomplished." This man desperately wants to be a hero.Just this Sunday, in fact, Ron Suskind mentioned this very theory in the New York Times Magazine when he dissected Bush's "preternatural, faith-infused certainty in uncertain times." According to Bush Push theory, if you disagree with the President, it's because he is too morally egotistic, self-assured, and preoccupied with the eternal to listen to your obviously superior arguments. He's still not too smart - that part keeps resurfacing - but at least he's his own man.It is hard to see how these two views are compatible. Can Bush be entirely beholden to the propertied elite while at the same time holding firm to the bedrock tenants of the Christian faith that helped him be "born again"? Sure, those interests might have coincided in Iraq, but it's implausible to suggest he held both Halliburton and Jesus Christ in his mind simultaneously as he ordered Operation Enduring Freedom, not to mention his thousand other decisions as President.

So the question remains: is Bush a cynic or a zealot? And if he's both, when is he one and not the other?Actually, neither conception is accurate - at least no more than they are in describing Kerry. To get a glimpse of this, look first at what these two versions have in common: the President's idiocy. True, Bush fails to grasp basic political facts, especially in the international arena. For example, Suskind quotes the President as claiming that Sweden has no standing army. But is Kerry any better? The senator, to be sure, is a published writer on public policy, and he embarrassed the President with details on issues ranging from homeland defense to tax cuts. That didn't stop him, however, from ignorantly asserting during the third presidential debate that a parental consent provision in any abortion law would force a girl raped by her father to ask his permission to terminate her pregnancy. (Somehow I think rape leads to forfeiture of parental rights.) Nor did it restrain him from claiming Americans are losing jobs because foreign countries aren't "playing by the rules." Kerry, as is his wont, toned down that position in the debates, but that doesn't erase his mistake. If Bush blithely ignores unpleasant realities, the senator blatantly distorts them.Or how about the main principle of the Bush Tush argument - that the President is a spoiled pawn of special interests and political expedience, and someone who is unconcerned about real Americans? Obviously true to an extent, but so it is for Kerry. He's taken shots at No Child Left Behind (after voting for it) at the behest of teachers' lobby, taken a trial lawyer as his Vice-Presidential candidate, and talked smack about free trade for the unionists. As for concern for the underprivileged, Kerry opposes the individual right of gay marriage, even though on abortion - a slightly safer position for a liberal - he claims he doesn't wish to impose his Catholicism on anyone else. And lest we forget, Kerry is also filthy, filthy rich. The fact that he subscribes to a theory of a paternalistic state doesn't necessarily make him any more class-conscious than Bush.Lastly, we come to the Bush Push hypothesis. Recall the argument that Bush is too damnably dogmatic to ever admit he is wrong. Proponents of this idea point to the second debate, in which Bush was asked to talk about any mistakes he made as President. He failed to mention a single one. But that isn't surprising: politicians don't like admitting their faults. Kerry, for his part, now calls his earlier pro-war stance as an error in the way he "spoke about" the conflict, as if three months of campaigning were suddenly nothing more than a slip of the tongue.The attacks on Bush's character and intellect, the attempts to paint him as our country's Anti-Christ, are much too simplistic. Nobody claims Bush is our hero. But, excepting his Vietnam service, no one should mistake John Kerry for one either.

These hysterical liberal conspiracy theories to explain why Bush can be such a very, very bad man lack the same nuance Kerry's supporters like to boast about. They take for granted that he has already lost on substantive issues, which he hasn't. And big-picture ideas, not hagiographies, are what eventually decide elections.

Dear gentle reader,

I haven't been able to write anything new today due to my cold. I'm having a cold and it's 90 degrees outside! It is thoroughly depressing. However, I managed to watch some TV last night and saw a 'Ray Charles' program on CBS which was pretty good. I think they should choose someone instead of Usher to sing 'Georgia'. It was my favorite song of Ray Charles and I was disappointed that Usher didn't deliver a satisfying performance. I think Usher is better suited to hip hop songs and rap. Other than that, it was a night of good music and powerful, uplifting tribute to Ray Charles.
